"I worked at Brown Muff's from 1960 to about '65 as a hairdresser, which was on the fourth floor. They were very disciplined in as to how you looked before you went out to see your client; got to have all your makeup on, all your hair had to be done. And they insisted that you wore stiletto heels with very pointy toes, and you had to wear them. It was compulsory, you had to wear them all day. By the time you got home your feet were absolutely killing you."
