So, how long have you been supporting the Wildcats then?
Helen: I’ve been supporting them about twelve or thirteen years since we got married.
Andrew: And I’ve been supporting them about twenty years.
What made become a Wakefield supporter?
Helen: Well, I used to be a Leeds fan. I used to go to watch Leeds with my friend from work. And then when we got married it got a bit expensive going to both and we tended to come to more Wakefield matches than Leeds because my friend stopped going. It was when we had the Cas [Castleford] versus Wakefield game and then we were due to be relegated. Then, at the end, I cried ‘cause we won. I think I must have been more of a Wakefield fan by then so…
So Wakefield at heart?
So, is it a family link that made you start supporting Wakefield?
Andrew: My parents used to support them and my uncles and what have you used to come in the 1930s and 40s.
So, have you always watched matches from the same stand?
Andrew: Yeah, we usually stand in the same place. Yeah, we usually stand in the same place – we’ve friends that we meet here.
Helen: Andrew used to do the scoreboard with his friend for quite a few years when they had the old scoreboard. We’ve always stood at that end and then we just kept on standing there since, since we’ve finished doing it.
So, is there a particular match or a memory that you have since you’ve been supporting Wakefield?
Helen: I think, for me, it was that Castleford/Wakefield game.
Andrew: For me, it was the Grand Final when we got promoted to Super League at Huddersfield. We beat Featherstone.
Well, so, what are your hopes for the team for this season then?
Andrew: Hope we pull us socks up a little bit and see if we can get some more wins under our belt. We’re capable of doing it to get into the top eight like we did last year.
Yeah, into the playoffs?
