RALHG has embarked on the strangely hitherto neglected task of gathering the history of Rastrick. The impetus was the forthcoming centenary of Rastrick library in November 2012. We shall be staging a week of events for the centenary and have been exhibiting displays in the library, changing monthly, for the year up to that anniversary.

Currently Chair of the Group is Alan Flux, Secretary is Susan Hawkes and primary contact for WYAS is John Sheppard. We have a constitution and bank account and are working toward Accreditation. To this end John attends Network meetings and he and normally one other member have been attending training sessions.

We normally meet as a group at Rastrick Library, 6.30pm on the second Tuesday of the month.

Rastrick Library is on Crowtrees Lane. There is ample car parking on the service road and a bus stop directly outside. Bus routes 258 (Brighouse-Elland) and 573 (Brighouse-Halifax) pass the door, while 278 (Wakefield-Halifax), 549 (Halifax-Huddersfield) and 570 (Bradford-Rastrick) stop at Rastrick Top o' Town just 5 minutes walk away.

RALHG now has two notices about the Library Centenary Week. I know how to post messages but not how to delete them when they become redundant. Anyone can advise?

Greetings Everyone! We still have tickets for Nick Barrett, of TV "Who do you think you are?" fame, at Rastrick library 7pm Wednesday 21 November. There is also room on the guided walk of part of Rastrick, 1.30pm Saturday 17th. Tickets for the talk available from Rastrick Library; for the walk just turn up. You are, of course, also welcome at any of the other sessions.

Our library celebrates its centenary on 22 November 2012. In the twelve months up to that date we have been mounting monthly displays about various aspects of Rastrick. Much recent Group meeting time has been spent on planning the celebratory week, 17-24 November (work towards accreditation has gone onto a back burner - sorry Rachel and Co at WYAS!). We'll hold 3 taster family history sessions, 3 "ask the expert" sessions, a guided walk on Sat 17, a talk by Nick Barrett on Weds 21 Nov, a concert by Brighouse and Rastrick on Sat 24, and of course a grand cake cutting on 22 Nov. So, as a Group, we are not only researching Rastrick history but also making it!
