|Name:||Methley community archive recieve their accreditation|
The West Yorkshire Archive Service (WYAS) launched their community archive Accreditation Scheme in February 2010 as part of the Heritage Lottery Funded Project ‘West Yorkshire: Our Stories’. The scheme is a component of wider provision and outreach to community archive groups in the region which hopes to raise standards and recognise the hard work going on in local communities. After their involvement in the Accreditation Champions scheme on 28th November the Methley Community Archive were the third group to become a West Yorkshire Archive Service Accredited group.
The launch of the Accreditation Scheme represents an important step in recognising the importance of community archives for local people and regional heritage. Methley Community Archive have been involved with the project from the start and because of the evidence of their hard work and dedication were invited to be one of the first groups to become accredited under the new scheme. The group have been running for close to ten years and have collected more than 5,000 items from over 200 contributors worldwide. They also work hard to make their collection accessible to the local community. They will now be involved in mentoring other community archive groups entering into the accreditation scheme.
