A variety of records relating to the origins and life of parks and playing fields reveal why and how green spaces were planned and created, and how they have been used over time - and come into their own if a community needs to tell the story of its park. You may need to demonstrate that conservation and history have been taken into account for green flag accreditation, you may need to make a case and drum up support for your local playing field to be protected as a Queen Elizabeth II Field in time for the Diamond Jubilee. And of course, you need to consider how your campaigning efforts are recorded as part of the history that is yet to be written about your park or playing field.
